Living in peace with your pet
My interest in animal behaviour has developed through spending many years of my life working with and living with a wide variety of pets, from hamsters to horses but mainly with dogs and cats.
Experience gained whilst running a Boarding Kennel and Cattery has been invaluable and my many years of exhibiting,
judging and breeding dogs and also breeding Siamese cats have taught me much about keeping order in a very mixed
species household.
I have passed the COAPE (centre of applied pet ethology) Diploma course "Practical Aspects of Companion Animal
Behaviour and Training" and the Animal Care College Intermediate Canine Psychology coursewith Meri. Other
courses include a Behaviour Counselling Course passed with Distinction with the A.C.C., Training for the Future
Course and the Advanced Think Dog course Canine Psychology through COAPE. I regularly attend workshops covering
a wide variety of topics including clicker training, running puppy classes as well as workshops on rehabilitation
and temperament assessment of rescue dogs and rehabilitation of dogs with aggression problems.
So much can be achieved with sensitive handling and a better understanding of animal communication signals. No
harsh methods are used when addressing a behavioural problem. I hope to promote kind and gentle approach to working
with your pet to resolve problem behaviour and to build a better relationship between pet and owner. Modification
programmes are developed to suit each individual dog and their owner to help owners to live in peace with their
pet.
Training does not have to mean rigid obedience, teaching your pet to do be able to sit or lay down, not to jump
up or to hog the best chair can be very useful without requiring hours of regimental training sessions. It can
be fun and very rewarding, as well as beneficial in building up a better working relationship.
Understanding the animals point of view can also be helpful when working through some behavioural issues. So much
can be done to improve the quality of living with a petulant pet, please feel free to contact me through my email
